INTRODUCTION

 Regions & Borders : Egypt, Officially Arab Republic of Egypt, Cairo is the capital country in northeastern Africa,

  southwestern Asia,  Egypt is the heart of the Arab countries, the Islamic world and the African nation.

 

 

 Flag : three colors of red, white and black horizontal stripes, with a golden eagle on the white stripe.

 Population : On 1/1/2004, the Egyptian was estimated at approximately 71 million.

 Area : Around 1,001,450 square km. of these, only around 55 thousands square km (i.e. 5.5%) are populated.

 Borders : It reaches to the Mediterranean coast on the north and Suez Canal, Gulf of Suez and Red Sea on the east direction.

  Gaza  Strip The State of Israel is attached to the east of Sinai. Libya shares its western border and Sudan its southern border,

  more than 90% of the country is covered by the deserts and divided by the River Nile.

THINGS TO KNOW

 VISAS : Visas are required for all nationalities. Many country's citizens can obtain one upon entry however citizens of some  countries  

  are required to obtain their visa from a consulate before arriving. Although most airlines can tell you whether one is required  for your  

 entry to Egypt, it would be best to check with the closest Egyptian consulate or Embassy to be certain." any  requirements contact us".

LANGUAGE : Arabic is the official language. English is widely spoken in business circles.

CLIMATE : Generally dry climate. Moderate temperatures and humidity prevail on the          Mediterranean coast, while in southern Egypt, the summer is hot and the winter is  generally warm.

TIME ZONE : GMT + 2. Egypt observes daylight saving time during the summer months.

BUSINESS HOURS : Government offices work Saturday through Thursday, with Friday as the day off. The private sector normally works five days a week, Sunday through Thursday.

CLOTHING : Winter months: Bring sweaters, a light coat or jacket for the cool Cairo evenings.   Summer months: light weight cotton clothing. A sweater for cool Cairo evenings.  Sunglasses as well as hats and scarves are recommended as protection against the  sun.

ELECTRICITY : 220 volts, 50 cycles AC in Cairo. Wall plugs are the round two.

RELIGION : Islam is the principal religion of Egypt. Islamic Holidays are based on the lunar calendar and change annually. although

 about 7% of the population is Eastern Orthodox & Catholics Christian. The Eastern Christian holidays are generally different than the western Christian ones. For instance Christmas is on January 06.

CURRENCY : The local currency is the Egyptian pound (L.E). 1 L.E = 100 piaster. Banks are opened  branches in major hotels for many hours. Credit cards are widely used in major hotels &

restaurants and shops. otherwise ATM is almost spread around the cities, Charges will be in Egyptian pounds. The exchange rate floats and changes daily. You do not need to change money prior to arrival as most currencies are accepted, especially US dollars and Euro by all establishments EXCEPT you must use Egyptian pounds for antiquity site entry fees.

 

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS : Normally no immunizations are required or needed. If you have recently been traveling in an area known to be experiencing problems you should obtain a health certificate before arrival.  While in Egypt drink the filtered bottle water or the mineral water.  Also be sure to bring any prescriptions you might need. Be careful of fresh fruit juices as they may be diluted with local non-filtered water.
